-> ARTICLE #1: PHP Upgraded ====================================
We've upgraded our installed version of PHP to 4.3.0. This new
version has been compiled as an Apache module. This means it
should increase PHP's speed and compatibility.
Since we upgraded from version 4.1.2, many things have changed
with PHP. You can see a log of the changes here:
Please be sure to test your PHP based applications for possible
incompatibilities. We do not expect there is by any, but please
do a quick check just to be sure.
-> ARTICLE #2: phpMyAdmin for All ==============================
For those of you that use MySQL we have setup a new utility to
allow web based access to your database. It's called phpMyAdmin
and you can access it here:
Use your MySQL username and password to login.
You can even access securely if you are working with sensitive
information. Please be aware that access through a secure
connection will be slower:
If you are unable to login, you make have to use an alternate
server. Please e-mail email@example.com for more info.
-> ARTICLE #3: Other Upgraded Server Software ==================
In addition to PHP, we've also upgraded to the newest versions
of OpenSSL, mod_ssl and MySQL. None of these upgrades should
require any changes on your part.
MySQL from v3.23.51 to v3.23.54a:
-> ARTICLE #4: More about MailWasher ===========================
After using MailWasher around the WSO office for a month or so,
we've come to realize that this software isn't bug free. We are
running the newest version of MailWasher, which is 2.0.21 beta,
on Windows XP Pro.
We've found the only reliable way to use MailWasher is in a very
simplistic way. Here's what we do. Turn off all mail bouncing,
turn on automatic checking.
When you want to check your mail, start MailWasher, check your
mail, wash it, then close MailWasher. Next open your regular
e-mail program and check your mail.
So far this has worked perfectly. We just hope they get some of
the bugs worked out since it is a nice piece of software.
