-> ARTICLE #1: fpweb.net Not Available =========================
---> Relevant for FPO, NV, BC account types ====================
================================================================
We have decided not to make the fpweb.net domain available for
new accounts. We are going to stick with our two existing
domains, 'mav.net' and 'wso.net'. We hope this does not
inconvenience anyone.
================================================================
-> ARTICLE #2: New provider Goodnet ============================
---> Relevant for ALL account types ============================
================================================================
We finally have our redundant T3 line up and running. Some
folks may have seen a leveling out of recent problems regarding
speed/bandwidth issues (we hope so). The Goodnet line is
working in conjunction with the existing CWIX line to balance
the data load.
================================================================
-> ARTICLE #3: WSO Newsletter Back Issues ======================
---> Relevant for ALL account types ============================
================================================================
The WSO Newsletter back issues are now available on-line at
http://www.wso.net/news.htm
The current month's issue is also featured at this page.
================================================================
-> ARTICLE #4: FrontPageŽ 98 Issues ============================
---> Relevant for ALL account types ===========================
================================================================
We think we have finally solved the issue involving the
FrontPageŽ 98 UNIX server extensions and the secure server.
Customers using FrontPageŽ 98 with FPO, NV, or BC accounts, and
wishing to use our secure certificate, should contact us at
support@wso.net.
All FrontPageŽ users should check out the following web site and
use it as a resource for FrontPageŽ related problems and
questions of all kinds.

Also check out the FrontPageŽ Client newsgroup for a wealth of
information: microsoft.public.frontpage.client
We suggest using FreeAgent as your newsgroup client, links to
it (and a FAQ maintained by one of our users) are located at our
downloads page:

-> ARTICLE #5: Changing Your Password ==========================
---> Relevant for NV, BC, VD account types =====================
================================================================
Due to recent advances in desktop computing power, home
"crackers" now have to power to due brute force password
cracking and guessing if your password does not follow the
guidelines below. The following steps can help reduce the risk
of a potential break-in:
1. Change your password often.
2. Make your password 8 characters long, no shorter.
3. Use a combination of numbers and upper and lower-case letters
4. Don't use a word that you can find in a dictionary (really!)
5. Using a word with a "1" before or after it won't help.
6. Your username should not be in your password, make it unique!
Now, your asking... "How do I change my password?"
Here you go:
1. Connect to your account via Telnet. See the following page
for directions: http://www.wso.net/support.htm#telnet
2. Once connected type: passwd [then press enter]
3. You'll be prompted for your current password and then asked
to enter a new one and to verify it again.
4. Type: exit [then press enter] to logout when you are done.
Follow the above guidelines when choosing a new password and
your account should be well protected!
NOTE: We recommend that EVERYONE change their password if you
are currently using the same password you signed up with! Also,
FrontPageŽ Only customers do not have a shell login, so this
information does not apply to them.
================================================================
-> ARTICLE #6: Checking Your Disk Space Usage ==================
---> Relevant for NV, BC, VD account types =====================
================================================================
Soon we will be making some new utilities available that you
can use through your browser to check your disk usage, update
your account info and more. Until then you can use your UNIX
shell account to check your disk usage.
Follow the procedure outlined in ARTICLE #5 for connecting to
to your account through telnet. Once connected, issue the
following command:
du -s ~username [then press enter]
Replace 'username' with the username use typed in when you
logged in via telnet. Divide the returned number by 1024 and
that is how many MB's you're currently using.
Type: exit [then press enter] to logout when you are done.
NOTE: FrontPageŽ Only customers do not have a shell login, so
you will have to wait until the on-line utilities are available.
================================================================
-> ARTICLE #7: Server Upgrade ==================================
---> Relevant for ALL account types ============================
================================================================
During this month we will be upgrading our current 200 MHz
Pentium processors to new 233MHz Pentium II processors. We will
also be doubling the installed RAM from 128 MBs to 256 MBs. We
hope you enjoy the new upgrades!
