-> ARTICLE #2: Palace Users Get InstantPalace ==================

We are happy to announce the availability of Instant Palace, the
web browser/Java Palace interface. We are installing Version 1.6
build 166.

InstantPalace is the Palace user software implemented as a Java
applet. This means that instead of requiring users to download
and install a separate piece of software, you can place
InstantPalace directly in a web page and users who connect there
can run it automatically. This new and transparent method of
distributing the Palace software can dramatically increase the
ability for PServer operators to bring people into their
Palaces.

Because of the very nature of Java, Instant Palace may or may
not work on various browsers. Likewise, a compatible browser on
a very slow computer may not be usable as well. Also be aware
that InstantPalace will not work unless you have your main
palace set to allow guests.

If you have a Virtual Domain account the URL to your
InstantPalace would be http://www.your.domain/palace. If you
have a Non-Virtual type account on (for example) mav.net and
your chosen directory name is 'mydir' the URL would be
http://www.mav.net/mydir/palace

We've added information on InstantPalace to the Tech Support
area of the WSO SupportCenter, look under "The Palace". Look
there for lots of tips and information, including links to more
info on InstantPalace.

Currently when Miva/Htmlscript documents are called, the URL
line contains '/cgi-bin/miva' and depending on your account
type, it may even contain your username.

Well, now that URL Redirection has been installed, this is no
longer the case. Now any document that ends in .mv or .hts will
be handled by the newest version of Miva via Apache URL
Redirection.

For example, you used to call your KoolCat catalog like this:
http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/miva?koolcat.hts

Now you can call it like this:
http://www.mydomain.com/public_hts/koolcat.hts

Or, move the 'koolcat.hts' file out of the normal Miva
'public_hts' directory and into the root of your web space and
call it like this:
http://www.mydomain.com/koolcat.hts

Please be aware that some scripts *may* not function properly
when called using the Apache redirection method, for two
reasons:

1. The script was written in old Htmlscript v2.99 using sloppy
syntax that is interpreted as errors by Miva. Well written code
will not have a problem. In the case, you can force the script
to be parsed by Htmlscript v2.99 by using the old cgi-bin
calling method outlined in the Tech Support area of the WSO
SupportCenter.

2. The script relies on passing data via the URL line. Miva
interprets the data on the URL line slightly different when
called using Apache Redirection as opposed to the cgi-bin
method. The differences are outlined here:

Apache redirection is similar to how URL data passing with
Miva Mia works.

In general using the redirected version of the URL looks cleaner
and more professional.

Let's set the record straight, Miva Corporation is a company.
Miva Script is a great programming language (it was called
HTMLscript in the past). Most often Miva Script "the language"
is referred to as just "Miva". Miva Empresa is the server-side
(our side) engine that interprets and executes the Miva Script
language for use within your web site. Miva Mia is a FREE
desktop version of the Miva engine that can run on your Win95/98
or NT machine allowing you to test and develop applications
off-line.
